Too Busy to Coupon?

Here are some great tips on how to save money in just a few minutes a week!

Tip #1: Follow Coupon Blogs That Have a Customizable Shopping List

There are so many great coupon blogs available, but it takes a long time to go through them all finding good deals. To save on time and money, go straight to the customizable shopping list, and pick the items you want and print. These lists will tell you where to find the coupons, how to stack them, where to find the deal, and they even have links to the specific printable coupon you need. Sites include: Coupon Sense, Grocery Smarts (for Western States), and Coupon Mom. There are a ton more offering customizable shopping lists, but these are some really good ones.

Tip#2: Organize Coupons by Insert

Now, I completely agree that it’s better to clip coupons than organize by insert, but if you don’t have time to clip, you can still save a ton of money by organizing them by insert, or page. Your customizable shopping list will tell you where to find the coupon you need without having to clip them.

To organize them by page, separate your coupon insert into pages and lay them out in front of you. If you have multiples of the same insert, match up pages and lay them on top of each other. Write the date issued and source like red plum or smart source on the front and back of the pile. Then put these pages into a binder with page protectors. Label them so that it’s easy to find what you need. This takes half as long as clipping.

Too save even more time, put the whole coupon insert into an accordion file and label. Again, your customizable shopping list will tell you where to find the coupons you need. This takes about two minutes and can really save you money!

Now if you have clipped a coupon then have decided not to use it, put it back in the page protector it was in or if you are organizing by whole insert, put it with the coupon insert it came in.

Tip#3: Price Match

Instead of running to three different stores, go to one store that price matches the sale. Remember, some stores price match but don’t accept competitor’s coupons so watch for that. But if you only have a manufacturer’s coupon with a sale, Wal-Mart and other stores that price match will cut down your running around time.

Tip #4: Use a Coupon Database

To do a quick search for a coupon, use a coupon database with a search engine. Common Sense with Money has a great one, same with We Use Coupons. This is a great tool to do a quick search for something without flipping through all your inserts to see if you have the coupon you want. It’s especially nice if you can access the internet with your phone so you can check in the store and grab the coupon you need. If you don’t have internet on your phone, do a quick search before you go out shopping.

Tip #5: If you miss a deal, forget about it!

I have stressed so much because there was a coupon I could have used with a sale, but I missed it. I learned to focus on how much I saved by using the insert, and let it go if I miss a deal. I have still saved a ton of money on my groceries.

To Recap: 1: Use Customized Shopping Lists. 2: Organize Coupons by Whole Insert. 3: Go to Stores that Price Match. 4: Use a Coupon Database. 5: Don’t Stress!

Now, you can’t coupon “Extreme Style” by using these tips, but you will still save a ton of money on your groceries with very little effort and time on your part. You will be well pleased with how much you saved, and how it didn’t affect your schedule to do it.
